Nurturing the Little Child within you
Psychologists tell us that deep inside of us live the little child when we were 4 or 5 years old. In child hood, we took in all the negative comments made by parents, other kids, teacher, and even strangers, and we decided then and there that that was all we were worth. If mother was angry because your room looked as if a tornado had hit it and she declared, “You’re nothing but a nerd,” you added that perception of yourself. When you didn’t do your homework and your teacher complained, “You’ll never amount to a thing,” you decided that she was right. And when the little boy you had a crush on told you your freckles were ugly, your unconscious added ugliness to your poor self-image. How could you possibly deserve anything good in life? When you consider all the negative input you received (even if those who gave it to you didn’t really mean it), you can understand why you might feel that you don’t deserve success in work, in love, or in freedom from phobias and fears.
